Siemens joined GreenBiz 2009

Seminar

At GreenBiz’s conference session on: “Answers to Climate Change and Environmental Care by Siemens”, the green infrastructure giant presents about its Environmental Portfolio with a focus on combating climate change through technological innovations. The technologies in Siemens’s Environmental Portfolio have already generated sales of roughly €19 billion in fiscal year 2008, accounting for about one-quarter of the company’s total revenue. Concrete and successful examples on how technological innovations can increase the efficiency of power generation, transmission, and consumption and avoiding greenhouse gas emissions will be showcased at Siemens booth at the exhibition area.

Siemens Vietnam CEO Erdal Elver is joining Siemens ASEAN Cluster Head of Energy, Mr.Prakash Chandran, in a presentation on: “Combating Climate Change through Technological Innovations” which gives audience an insight into the current situation of climate change, its causes and negative impacts on humankind and economic growth, as well as illustrate how technological innovations can be driving forces to counteract climate change. Siemens combined cycle power plants will soon achieve efficiencies of more than 60 percent. Combined heat and power can even achieve overall efficiency factors of over 90 percent. About 7,800 Siemens wind turbines have been installed with a peak performance of 8,800 megawatts, reducing CO2 emissions by more than 8 million metric tons per year. Thanks to high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission technology from Siemens, electricity can be transmitted over distances of up to 2,000 kilometers with minimum loss. Siemens has modernized 6,500 buildings worldwide, thereby reducing CO2 emissions by 2.4 million metric tons and saving more than 1 billion euros. Energy-saving lamps from Osram boast a high level of luminous efficiency and use up to 80 percent less electricity than light bulbs. They also last up to 15 times longer.

In Vietnam, Siemens has already implemented highly efficient power plant technologies such as our combined cycle power plants with efficiency levels of more than 57 percent in Phu My 3 and Ca Mau 1&2, as well as the reliable high voltage substations for lowloss energy transmission in Quang Ninh and many other places in the country.

“Technological innovations are the strongest levers to increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Siemens is a leader in climate protection technologies. Our comprehensive portfolio in power generation, distribution and consumption includes highly effective measures to reduce C02 emissions”, said Mr. Erdal Elver, President and CEO of Siemens Vietnam. “We have answers to Vietnam’s toughest questions confronting climate change”.
