On 7th December 2012, Siemens PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) Applications Awards Ceremony took place in Ho Chi Minh City as a successful end for the Siemens PLC Applications Contest 2012. This contest was organized for the first time by Siemens Industry Automation Vietnam and ran from July till end of September 2012. A total of 40 applications were submitted, of which 26 qualified entries were selected for uploading to the official website of the contest. After 2 months, 100,000 on-line votes were received.
This contest is targeted at those who are working and interested in the fields of automation. Contestants were asked to submit at least a description of their applications for one of the following Siemens’ products and equipments: logic controller LOGO, PLC S7-1200, S7-300, TIA Portal programming software, Basic & Comfort HMI operator panel. All applications were then uploaded onto the official website of the contest www.industry.siemens.com.vn for voting by visitors. Applications with the highest votes received attractive prizes including a training course on Siemens PLC in Singapore.
With more than 46,000 votes, Mr. Tran Dang Khoa, an engineer from Bach Khoa Equipment and Accessories Co., Ltd., in Ho Chi Minh City won the First Prize. Mr. Khoa used PLC S7-1200 for controlling and monitoring the environment of a bird’s nest house. His prizes are a fully-paid 3 days training course on S7-1200 in Singapore and one digital camera. Mr Khoa shared that his application has been expanded to some locations in the country like Can Gio District of Ho Chi Minh City. He also appreciated the technical support from Siemens experts in Vietnam or in the Headquater whenever he met difficulties at work.
The Second Prize went to Mr. Vo Nhu Thanh, a lecturer from Danang University of Technology with over 37,000 votes for his application. Mr. Thanh built an automation system, which simulates a production line with four separate stations for education purpose. All components are connected together via Profinet communication. Mr. Thanh received a creative set of Siemens products including PLC S7-1200 – CPU1215C, HMI KTP400 operator panel and TIA Portal Basic programming software, and one digital camera. A LOGO! 0BA7 was also offered to him as an early bird reward. Mr. Thanh said in the awards ceremony that the actual time he spent for his project was only 3 months, which is one half of his original plan. What he loved about his project was that its complexity could well simulate a full factory in reality.
The winner of the Third Prize was Mr. Khuat Quang Vinh, an engineer from Petrolimex Information Technology and Telecommunication JSC. in Ha Noi, for his automation system for a petroleum tank truck terminal. Monitoring petroleum storage is a very complicated task with many steps such as export, import, temperature control, extraction, etc. In order to optimize cost as well as resources, Mr. Vinh used TIA Portal to control all steps. Mr. Vinh has received a creative set including PLC S7 1200 – CPU 1212C, HMI KTP300 operator panel and TIA Portal Basic programming software, and one digital camera.
