Siemens supports Vietnam in fighting cancer – fast and focused

With an aim to provide a comprehensive information of current cancer situation as well as the innovative and advanced technologies in oncology diagnostics and treatment, Siemens has cooperated with Chi Anh Med Tech Co., Ltd, one of Siemens distributors in Vietnam to organize the symposium titled: “Fighting cancer- fast and focused”. The event is held in two days, April 16th and 17th, 2010 in Nha Trang with the participation of Vice Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien and over 100 professors, doctors working at oncology departments and radiology departments throughout the country. This is the first time Siemens undertakes to organize such a large-scale event in Vietnam on this important topic, and it is a strong indication of Siemens commitment to the development of Vietnam’s healthcare sector, especially in the oncology care in Vietnam.

According to the International Union Against Cancer (UICC), about 12 millions people were detected with cancer in 2008 of which about 20% of the cases were caused by virus and bacterium. Vietnam is reported to be the third country in the world with the highest rate of liver cancer cases. As per an unofficial statistic source, about 70,000 out of 150,000 patients are died of cancer per year. It is predicted that there will be 200,000 new cases of cancer and about 100,000 people die of cancer each year.

At the approval of Minister of Health, a network of cancer detection and protection are being established from the central to local hospitals in the duration of 10 years from 2010-2020. One of the most important objectives is to train the high skilled medical staff in order to meet the demand of cancer diagnostics and treatment. In additions, the application of advanced technologies is a prerequisite to improve the quality of oncology care.

In this context Siemens has co-operated with Chi Anh Med Tech Co., Ltd, one of Siemens partners in Vietnam, to organize the symposium titled: “Fighting cancer- fast and focused” in April 16 &17, 2010 in Nha Trang City. A series of clinical talks and technology presentations have been delivered by international clinical speakers and Siemens specialists, targeting at three popular cancer diseases in Vietnam including lung cancer, liver cancer and breast cancer.
